These are the themes that guide the design for the International Archive of Women in Architecture building in Buenos Aires. The design is centered around a large vertical plane, seemingly pushed forth from the ground. From here, various elements intersect or emerge out of this plane, creating fluid spaces. The functions of each of these spaces can be determined in part by the façade. The private archive appears more closed-off - hardly visible from the exterior - while the open spaces and transparent façades delineate the public realm. This transparency also allows for a less precise boundary between what is private, what is public, and what is in-between. It is the architecture's intention to draw people into the structure through use of these ambiguous space. Similarly, it aims to design interior spaces that are flexible in terms of exact function - spaces that can be given a new purpose if need be.
